When Howling Dog RecordsProducer Don Richmond was approached to do a CD project for Robin James, he didn't know her, but he knew of her... Moved by her music and the no-nonsense person she is to work with, he later described her as an artist that "could go national." Don Richmond doesn't say that about everyone. She amazes audiences with her energetic dynamic performances of her own original music and cover songs by Jewel, Dido, Joan Osborne, and many others. After her concerts, people gather around her to talk and buy her CD, sometimes in quantity. "At the Adams State College concert," said James, "one woman bought five of my CDs. What a compliment."

Shady Lady is not about lampshades, lighting, window treatments, nor an historical romance novel by Elizabeth Thornton, a Nevada brothel. And it isn't a drink made with tequila, lime, and melon liquer...
Shady Lady is about love. Lost love, and the hopelessness of seeing that love die and being powerless to do anything about it. It's a song about hope that lingers in the face of great odds, and how strong love can be when put to the test. Love is said to be the most powerful force in the world. Shady Lady, written by Dianne James and performed by Robin James was originally penned as an anti-drug song, with the powerful emotional expression of the stages of mourning one goes through when you know it's over, but can't say goodbye.
Robin was a young girl when her mother wrote the song, and little did the writer know that Robin would someday include that on her first CD, Green Winter. Robin James, and producer/musician Don Richmond deliver the song true to the writer's vision of it. Her yodel at the beginning and the end of the song is hauntingly beautiful, and is a true expression of Robin James' vocal range and control.

Robin- an appropriate name for one of the world's most soulful singers. If you get a chance to see this performer live, don't miss it.

Robin turns up the heat with her soulful vocals at Adams State College's Carson Auditorium during a concert April 26, 2002. The band included Don Richmond, steel, violin, and guitar; Creede de Avenzar, congas; Ashley Raines, bass; Lawrence Martinez, lead guitar; and Jimmy Anderson, rhythm guitar. Robin performed her original classical piano piece, Lover's Quarrel, and amazed the audience with her versatility.
